Long Jump – Kelly Sport

This blog post was written by Malosi.  Thank you Easton for your videography.

This week, we had Kelly Sports visit us to teach us the basics of long jump. Coach Sarah did an awesome job of teaching us the proper techinque.

We started by learning how to jump and how to land. We were taught to jump off one leg and then land with both feet in a “motorbike stance.” After that, we practiced different levels of long jump, starting from easy and gradually moving to harder jumps.

Next, Coach Sarah got us into two lines for a game. After each jump, the landing spot was moved further, which made us really focus on jumping off one leg and landing in the motorbike stance.

Lastly, we did some real long jumps. We got into a single line and used everything we had learned to see how far we could jump. Each person’s distance was marked with a tennis ball, and everyone jumped really far and did great.

We enjoyed HPE with Coach Sarah, and are grateful for the techniques she taught us.

Rippa Rugby Tournament

Darius and Vaingalo teamed up to bring you this update on our Rippa Rugby Tournament.

Over the past two weeks, we prepared for the big event. Here were the key rules we focused on:

No passing the ball to a teammate who is in front of you.
No slapping or fighting after a tagline—always check in with the ref.
Stay onside and make sure not to get in front of the ref.
We trained every Wednesday at lunchtime with our Year 5 & 6 mixed team.  From our class we had : Vaingalo, Darius, Ene, Fern, Atahua, Amorangi, Valencia, Donyal, Loa, Cattayelaya, Sila, Sweet-E, and Rekard.

During our practices, we worked on sharing the ball, playing as a team, and improving our footwork. It wasn’t always easy, but we made great progress.

The tournament went great. Our teamwork really paid off, and we had an amazing time on the field. We’re already looking forward to the next one.

Volleyball

This blog post was written by Jenesis.  Click here to visit his blog.

Wednesday week nine the entirety of the volleyball team I was in the year 5 and 6 team and this was all the team me (Jenesis), Ahea, Vaingalo, Loa and Eneasi and also my mum came.  Anyway we went to the volleyball interschools which was held at the Bruce Pulman park which was huge. It had volleyball set ups, netball set ups and even basketball setups you could play tons of sports at this specific place.

Next we had to actually play which was super scary for me since I’ve never actually played against another team before so this was a new experience for me and probably all my teammates and we had only five players and we had no subs.

After that we had to face the first team. It was really scary since there was the thought of us losing. It was really down putting for me. I don’t know about my teammates though. Anyway we ended up winning that game. It was so cool we celebrated and we went to the next game.

This second game was really fun since I was feeling really good after that first victory so we went on to finish that game and me (Jenesis), Eneasi, Vaingalo, Ahea and Loa emerged victorious once again which was really exciting.  We ended up going undefeated through the tournament.
